MICHAEL yOUNG

Michael Young is a litigation partner at Reichardt Noce & Young, LLC in St. Louis, Missouri, with a primary emphasis in insurance law and bad faith. For over twenty years, Mr. Young has represented insurers in complex insurance coverage and extra-contractual matters in Missouri and Illinois. He has advised insurers in drafting policy language and claims forms, advocating legislative changes, and developing claims best practices. Mr. Young also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Saint Louis University School of Law and teaches a course in Insurance Law.

 

Mr. Young has been selected as a Best Lawyer in America in Insurance Law, a Super Lawyer for Insurance Coverage, and a Fellow in the American College of Coverage Counsel (ACCC). He received the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel’s (FDCC) 2023 Andrew C. Hecker Award for the Most Outstanding Article in the FDCC Quarterly and received the Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance’s Professional of the Year Award in the category of Outside Defense Counsel in 2022.

 

Mr. Young currently writes the supplements for the treatise Insurance Law and Practice, Missouri Practice Series, Volume 30. Over the years, he has published numerous articles on insurance coverage and extra-contractual topics in other industry publications, such as Coverage OpinionsCPCU Society Insights MagazineCaptive Insurance Company ReportsFDCC InsightsFor The DefenseDRI TodayCLM MagazineMODL NewsletterIDC Quarterly, and The Illinois Manufacturer. Mr. Young is a frequent speaker on insurance law and extra-contractual topics, including serving as faculty for educational workshops and other industry training. He has presented at seminars, webinars or podcasts for groups such as the American Bar Association (ABA), ACCC, Property and Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB), National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), National African-American Insurance Association (NAAIA), RISE Professionals, CLM, FDCC, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers (MODL), Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC), Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, St. Louis Chapter of International Association of Special Investigation Units (IASIU), Chicagoland Chapters of CPCU, St. Louis Chapter of CPCU, Springfield Claims Association, United States Arbitration & Mediation, Miles Mediation & Arbitration, Alaris/Lexitas, Perrin Conferences, Strafford, and National Business Institute.

 

Mr. Young currently is a member of MODL, where he has served in prior years on the Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the St. Louis County Bar Association. In prior years, he has served as Chair of the IDC’s Insurance Law Committee and of CLM’s Extra-Contractual Community. Mr. Young also served as Faculty at CLM’s Claims College in the School of Extra-Contractual Claims and led that organization’s very first Insurance Coverage Bootcamp.

 

Mr. Young graduated summa cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2002 where he was the Valedictorian of his class. His article on Missouri dram shop liability was voted the Best Student Work in the Saint Louis University Law Journal for 2000-01. He graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
